Stiles Farm House is a Grade II listed rural property set within gardens and surrounding paddocks on Maidstone Road in Horsmonden. The project focused on improving the existing collection of outbuildings while ensuring the character and setting of the historic farmhouse remained central to the design.
The proposal replaces an existing garage with a new annexe designed to provide flexible living space, including bedrooms, a kitchen and open plan living area. A mezzanine level introduces an additional bedroom while maintaining a sense of openness within the main living space.
Alongside the annexe, a new timber-framed storage barn provides practical space for garden equipment and machinery, with a gym or office area above. The two buildings are positioned close to the main house to retain the traditional farmstead arrangement of the site while remaining screened by trees and planting.
Natural weatherboard, brick and clay roof tiles were selected to reflect the materials of the surrounding buildings, helping the new structures sit comfortably within the rural landscape and alongside the listed farmhouse.
