Designed to sit quietly within its landscape

Tucked beside a disused railway line in Groombridge, Lake View is a contemporary four-bed home designed to sit quietly within its landscape. Much of the building is partially embedded into the sloping ground with a planted green roof that continues the natural contours of the site.

Large areas of glazing open the living spaces towards the south and east, capturing uninterrupted views across the lake and countryside beyond. At the centre of the home, a sunken courtyard brings daylight deep into the plan while creating a sheltered outdoor space protected from the elements.

Natural materials including sandstone, larch cladding and weathered steel were chosen to reflect the character of the landscape and help the building settle comfortably into its setting.
