Great Wadd Farmhouse is a Grade II listed property set within the countryside near Frittenden. Over time, a series of additions had altered the original structure, including a flat-roofed extension that limited views and connection to the garden and pond beyond.
Our proposal replaces this later addition with a carefully designed single-storey extension that opens the home towards the water and countryside beyond. Large sliding glazing allows the kitchen, dining and living spaces to flow naturally onto the terrace, creating a strong connection between the house and its setting.
The new structure sits lightly alongside the historic building, using materials that complement the existing farmhouse while introducing a more contemporary character. Weathering steel, glazing and clay tiles are combined with brickwork to create a warm and understated addition that feels both modern and at home within the historic property.
