transforming an inefficient layout using carefully considered architectural and interior interventions

Birling Road involved the complete reconfiguration of a substantial family home in Tunbridge Wells. The project transformed an inefficient layout through a series of carefully considered architectural and interior interventions, including the conversion of the existing garage into a self-contained annexe.
Internally, living spaces were reorganised to improve flow, strengthen connections to the garden and create a more practical arrangement for modern family life. The proposal included a new kitchen layout, redesigned entertaining spaces, a master suite with walk-in wardrobe and en-suite, bespoke fitted furniture and a complete interior refurbishment throughout.
Externally, the design respected the character of the existing property while introducing new glazing and openings that enhance natural light and improve the relationship between the house and its landscape.
The interiors at Birling Road were designed around improving the way the family lived within the home. Existing rooms were reconfigured to create a clearer hierarchy of spaces, better circulation and a stronger connection between indoor and outdoor living.
A new open-plan arrangement introduced more generous entertaining spaces while improving access to the garden. Bespoke fitted furniture was incorporated throughout the scheme, including a walk-in wardrobe, custom storage solutions and integrated joinery designed to maximise functionality without compromising the character of the home.
The first floor was completely reimagined, creating a spacious principal suite with a dedicated dressing area and en-suite, alongside upgraded family accommodation and improved storage. Careful attention was given to natural light, views and the relationship between rooms, resulting in a cohesive interior that balances practicality with comfort.
